Role today

Krasnodar Tsentralny is the city’s second airfield after Pashkovsky international airport. It is owned by the Russian Ministry of Defence and shared with Interior Ministry aviation and the DOSAAF Krasnodar aeroclub. [2] It is home to the 275th Aviation Repair Plant. [1] The Krasnodar branch of the Russian Air Force’s Military Air Academy marked its 75th anniversary there with an air show on 3 November 2013, with Su-27s, MiG-29s, L-39s, Su-24s, Su-25s, An-26s, An-2s and Mi-8s. [2]

History

The base was built in 1952, and the 802nd Training Aviation Regiment flew from it until 1993, latterly with Su-25s and L-39s. [1] In 2004 the city planned to close the airfield and build over it, but in 2015 the authorities changed the city’s general plan to keep it open. [2]

The airfield

A single concrete runway, 08/26, about 2,500 m long and 40 m wide, on the north-west side of the city. [1] [2]
