Role today
Mozdok is a Russian Air Force strategic aviation base on the north-west edge of the town, and home to a detachment of the 485th Independent Helicopter Regiment. [1] [2] Published sources on it are thin, so this record is short.
History
The base was used heavily in the First Chechen War and in Russia’s military operation in Syria. [2] No fuller published history of it was found in the sources consulted.
The airfield
Two parallel concrete runways: 08L/26R, 3,485 m long, and 08R/26L, 3,000 m. [1]
