Role today
Qeshm International is the airport of Qeshm Island, with flights to the United Arab Emirates and to Tehran. [1] In 2004 about 73% of its passengers were international, around half of them on quick turnaround “visa” flights for migrant workers in the UAE. [1] It has no cargo facilities. [1]
History
Most of the airport was built in 1996 and 1997, and it opened to commercial traffic in July 1997; the fuel farm and control tower followed in 2002–03. [1] It has recorded some of the highest dew points ever measured, 97 °F on 28 August 2024 and 31 July 2025. [1]
The airfield
One asphalt runway, 05/23, 4,226 m long. [1] Only a small area on the north-west side of the large site is used for aviation. [1]
